A Legend Arises on Halloween

Halloween, a spooooooky time… with kids in the streets knocking on doors and giving choices… watching horror films on the TV whilst wrapped in a blanket against the encroaching darkness outside… however you celebrate it, a group of friends in Chelmsley Wood were braver than most would be and opened a new gaming space in their local shopping centre.

The team with an appropriate backdrop!

Ceolmunds Dungeon is aiming to be a community hub for passionate people to build their hobbies around. Selling Manga, Comics and Games, it fills a space that North Solihull doesn’t currently have. Behind and beside the store area are gaming tables just waiting to be filled with miniature and TCG tournaments or roleplaying games and board games and at the back of the large room is a retro Arcade zone.

It’s a enormous indoor space, opposite where the indoor market is in Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre and Grace, Ellen and Richard have grand plans to make it grow into whatever the local fandom community needs it to be.

The Devil Dog watches from the trees….

Amazing artwork by ‘Just Names’ dons the walls. Graffiti murals based around the story that Chelmsley Wood was named after, hence the name Ceolmund. A local legend back from around the year 1200 of a warrior looking to make a home in the Forest of Arden but being overwhelmed by the creatures of the wood fighting back. Striking a deal alongside his wife with the Elf of the Hill and Hrothgar, the giant wild boar, peace settled. Legend has it that great treasure lies beneath the roots, guarded by a Devil Dog. What an apt story for a treasure trove of a location!

This aims to be a safe space for people, be it kids after school waiting for their connecting bus, or fans looking for a haunt more local than the city centre. The team’s passion for the culture they represent is palpable and being so close to the NEC with its regular conventions is a clever location for such a venture.

We’ll add them to our Places page shortly and eagerly await to see if any other plans of theirs align with any of our other pages.
